Hazel Taylor painting of house on country road with frame
Hazel Taylor painting of house on country road

I found this painting today at a Savers Thrift Store for $8.99. But since it was Black Friday, I got 25% off so it only cost $6.75. It’s signed H. Taylor. But there is an aged piece of paper on the back that lists the title as “November 1st (Once On Culver Rd)”. It also has the artist’s full name as Hazel Taylor, 403 S. Academy, Medina (NY). The painting is on homemade canvas board. The dimensions are an odd 17.75″ x 20.75″. The board came from an old Bendix Automatic Ironer sign. The frame also seems to be home made. I am not sure if it is an oil painting or acrylic. If I had to guess, I would say acrylic. The color choices are interesting.
I found a reference to a Miss Hazel Taylor in a 1925 Medina, NY newspaper. Sounds like maybe she was a teenager at this point. And I found a reference to a Hazel Taylor of Medina, NY being part of an exhibit of paintings in a 1953 Niagara Falls newspaper. This painting very well may date back to the 50s. It wouldn’t surprise me. The Bendix Automatic Ironer seems to be something from the 1940’s.
